Fixing a manager's email address

Update a manager's email address when invitations or notifications go to the wrong person, or when someone has been registered as a manager with the wrong email — covers who in your organization can make the change.

Fix a manager's email address when manager invitations, reminders, or notifications are going to the wrong person — or not arriving at all. This is the right article when someone has been registered as a manager with the wrong email, or when an existing manager's address has changed and needs updating. If you actually need to swap in a different person as the manager rather than correct an email, see Changing or removing a manager mid-journey instead.

Who can do this

Updating a manager's email is a journey editor or org admin task — the participant, the manager themselves, and Knowly support can't do it for you.

  • Journey editors and org admins make the change on the People page, in the import data, or in the directory the manager came from.

  • Participants can't change their own manager from inside the learning journey.

  • The mis-addressed manager can't fix it from their side either. If you've received a manager registration email that wasn't meant for you, forward it to whoever set up the learning journey at the participant's organization so they can correct it at the source.

  • Knowly support doesn't have access to edit individual participants' managers for your organization — we'll route you back to your own Knowly admin.

Check the source

Manager email can come from manual entry on the People page, an import file, the participant's registration step, or your organization's directory. Find the source before correcting the address — fixing it in the wrong place either won't stick or won't take effect.

Directory-managed managers

If manager data comes from your directory, correct the manager email in the identity provider first. Knowly reads the manager email from the directory on every sync, so a fix made directly in Knowly will be overwritten the next time the sync runs.

After the fix

If the manager needs access right away, resend the relevant invitation or access message after the address is corrected.
