The Previous answer element lets a Micro training slide pull a question a participant answered earlier in the same learning journey and show their own answer back to them on a later slide. Use it for reflection moments along the lines of "Two weeks ago you wrote this — what's changed since?"
Where to find it
Open a Micro training and add a new element to a slide. Pick Previous answer from the element menu. It sits alongside the question, text, image, and video elements.
Pick the source question
After you add the element, the slide editor sidebar shows Select question. Clicking it opens a picker that lists every question from earlier Micro trainings in this learning journey. Pick the Micro training, then pick the specific question — that's the answer each participant will see on this slide.
Important. The source question must be in a different, earlier Micro training in the same learning journey. You can't pull from a question on an earlier slide of the same Micro training, and you can't pull from a Micro training that comes later. This is what the element is built for: bridging two moments in the journey, where the participant has had time to act, reflect, or change since they first answered.
You can change the source later with Change question, and toggle Include description to also show the original question's description on the new slide.
A reflection example
Imagine a leadership journey with two Micro trainings two weeks apart:
Week 1, slide 4 asks: "What's one habit you'd like to change in how you give feedback?"
Week 3, slide 1 is a wrap-up that adds a Previous answer element pointing at the Week 1 question.
Each participant opens Week 3 and sees their own Week 1 answer, in their own words, right above the next prompt: "Two weeks in — what have you actually tried?" The reflection lands because it's grounded in what they wrote, not a generic prompt.
When you can't pick a question
If the picker doesn't let you select anything, one of these is the reason:
There's no earlier Micro training in this journey. The element needs at least one Micro training scheduled before the one you're editing. Move this Micro training later in the journey, or add the Previous answer element to a Micro training that has earlier ones to draw from. If the editor shows a message about templates even though you're not in a template, this is what's happening underneath — you're on the first or only Micro training in the journey, so there's nothing earlier to point at.
You're editing a template. Templates aren't tied to a specific journey yet, so there are no journey-specific questions to choose from. The picker will start working once the template has been added to a learning journey.
