Personalization using text variables

Use text variables to make messages and activities feel personal at scale.

Text variables let Knowly insert participant or journey information into text you write. They are useful when a message should feel personal even though many people receive it.

Where variables help

Use variables in messages, instructions, and notifications when you want to include details such as a participant's name or journey context without writing separate text for each person.

Write around the variable

A variable is only the inserted value. The surrounding sentence still needs to read naturally for every participant who receives it.

Preview before launch

Always preview or send a test before publishing. A quick check helps you catch missing values, awkward grammar, or a variable placed in the wrong sentence.

For email notifications, Send test is the best check for variables that depend on message context. If a manager notification uses an employee-name variable, Send test asks for a Preview employee name so you can see a concrete example.
