Being both a manager and a participant: switching between the two views

Learn why you may have both manager and participant views in Knowly and how to move between them.

You can be a participant in one learning journey and a manager in another. In some setups, you can even have both roles connected to the same wider program. When that happens, Knowly may show you both a participant view and a manager view.

Why you have two views

The two views are for different jobs:

Participant view. This is where you complete your own activities, read messages, answer questions, and follow your own schedule.

Manager view. This is where you follow other people's progress, read manager-specific guidance, and support the people assigned to you.

Having both views does not mean your own participant answers are mixed with your manager tasks. Each view is tied to the role you are using at that moment.

Switch to the view you need

If you have both roles, look for the view switcher in Knowly. Use it to move between your participant work and your manager work.

Choose the participant view when you want to:

  • complete your own learning journey

  • answer your own activities

  • see your own schedule

Choose the manager view when you want to:

  • follow your assigned employees or participants

  • respond to manager activities

  • see manager resources or guidance

If a view is missing

If you expected to see both views but only see one, the other role may not be connected to your account yet.

Contact the organization that invited you and ask them to check:

  • which email address they invited for each role

  • whether you are added as a participant

  • whether you are assigned as a manager

  • whether the learning journey uses a different name for the manager role, such as coach or mentor

Use the same email address for both roles when possible. If one role was invited to another email address, Knowly may treat it as a separate account.
