Adding links to a learning journey

Add a link in a text block or on an end-screen button (external pages), or a direct-message button that can also point to the journey home, file library, a file, or a thread.

You can add links in a few places in a learning journey, and what each one can point to differs. A link in your text opens an external web page, while a Button — on an end screen, a direct message, or a notification — can also point somewhere inside the journey.

Links in your text

In a Text block, select the words you want to turn into a link — a toolbar appears — then use its link button and paste the web address. Text links open an external page, so the address needs to start with http:// or https://. Participants open the link from inside the activity.

A button on an end screen

In the activity's End screen settings, you can add a Button. Give it Button text and a Link destination — the web address it opens — to send participants somewhere to continue after they finish.

A button on a direct message

A direct message can carry a Button with the most choice of any: its Link to setting can point inside the journey — the home screen, the file library, a specific file, or a thread — or out to an External website. You can even attach a file with Add file, uploading a new one if you need, for the button to open. Set this where you edit the direct message; see Direct messages.

A regular activity notification's button is different: it simply takes participants to the activity it's announcing, rather than a link you freely choose. Among regular notifications, only the confirmation a manager gets when someone completes a micro training can also point its button at a specific file. See Make the most of notifications in Knowly.

What you can't do

There's no picker that links a word in your text straight to another activity by name. Text links go to external addresses only. To point participants at something inside the journey, use a button — for example one that opens the home screen or the file library — or link to the underlying resource. If you want participants to open a document, you can also add it as a File element; see File limits and accepted formats.
