A learning journey doesn't go live as a single event. Each activity is sent or scheduled on its own, with or without a notification, and that's what decides when participants see content.

When you set up an activity's invitation, you make two choices. First, whether to notify participants: Send an invitation sends a notification, while Publish silently makes the activity available with no notification. Second, whether to do it now or later — now happens immediately, and scheduling for later asks for the date and time.

When you schedule for later, you also choose what participants see before it's sent — a locked activity they can't open yet, or a hidden one. See Deadlines, hidden, and locked activities. Once an activity is scheduled, no further action is needed — Knowly sends it on that date to everyone on the recipient list at the time.

Cohort learning journeys schedule by shared calendar dates, so everyone gets an activity on the same day. Individual learning journeys schedule relative to each participant's start date, so the same activity reaches different participants on different days. In both cases, once an activity has a schedule and the participant is on its recipient list, it will reach them at the scheduled time.

Usually this means their learning journey has no live activities yet — nothing has been sent or scheduled to them, so the journey looks empty. Check two things:

If both are true and the activity is scheduled in the future, the participant will see it once the scheduled time arrives.

A scheduled activity that hasn't been sent yet isn't locked in. You can move it to a new date or un-schedule it entirely — see Cancelling scheduled activities. After an activity has reached participants, be careful with edits: content changes are visible to them immediately.
