When you create a learning journey in Knowly, you choose how its timing works: a cohort journey where everyone moves through the same dates together, or an individual journey where each participant follows the schedule from their own start point. You pick this when you create the journey, and it shapes how every activity is scheduled.
Choose a cohort journey when timing is shared
Pick Cohort with sessions when everyone should get activities on the same dates, join the same meetings, and move through the programme together. The schedule is a shared calendar: you set real dates, and every participant gets each activity at that moment, in their own local time. See Time zones in Knowly.
This fits a group that starts together — a leadership programme, a course with live sessions, or a campaign with a fixed timeline.
Choose an individual journey when timing is personal
Pick Individual when participants start at different times and should each get the same experience from their own starting point. Instead of fixed dates, you schedule each activity relative to an anchor date — a personal reference point like a first day at work — and every participant gets their own timeline from the anchor date you set for them.

What actually changes
The activities and content can be identical. What differs is scheduling:
A cohort journey is timed to shared calendar dates.
An individual journey is timed relative to each participant's anchor date, so the same journey can be reused for everyone who joins later. See Scheduling in individual learning journeys.
You choose the type when you create the journey, so it's worth deciding up front — but the content you build works much the same way either way.
